The Dude has been watching the new "V" on Hulu (because who the hell schedules a show at 7pm??) and has been really enjoying some of the stylistic changes that have been made- for example, the idea that all the Vistors are universally hot. It makes for big fun when you see a new character, and you attempt to guess if they are a Visitor or not based on their attractiveness--- there's a drinking game in there somewhere, methinks.

There's also the fact that they are coming across as much more cunning than the 80's version, with sleeper cells, PR campaigns, and extensive surveillance-- very different and sophisticated feeling from the original. Morena Baccarin is playing Anna creepily, with that angelic calm face and demeanor only occasionally cracked by a baleful glance and hint of evil. Hopefully, they'll continue to keep the Visitor's intentions close to the vest, or at least present them as hopelessly complex ala the new Battlestar Galactica or Lost, so as to keep that aspect of the show fresh. It's obviously a fine line there, so the writers have their work cut out for themselves.

That's what it is all about though, isn't it? Keeping the genre fresh by playing to the boogymen of the moment? In 20 years, this one will seem quaint as well... what do you think will be the zeitgeist then?

I only smile in the dark. My only comfort is the night gone black...

Daylight savings time is over, and the annual adjustment from driving to work in the dark to driving home in the dark is underway. When are we going to drop the whole silly thing and just realize that the seasons change? Does it really matter if the sun is at the highest point in the sky at local noon? We should just move to UTC and be done with it! :)
